Art-Community-Light. Some images from the 2016 Artists’ Lantern-Making Workshop

A few days ago, over 20 artists, educators and creative-makers spent two days with artists Angelo Arnold and Gowri Savoor, to create large-scale lanterns to spearhead this year’s River of Light in Waterbury. Some incredible structures came out of the weekend including: a bird of paradise, a giant acorn, several toadstools that will form a fairy ring, a saguaro cactus and a coffee plant. Look out for them at the parade on Dec 3rd!

Thanks for an amazing night!

A huge thanks! to each and every one of you that made the effort bring your joy to Saturday’s River of Light Lantern Parade. We had a record turn-out of lantern-bearers, spectators and magic makers; people arrived from across Vermont and New England, and it was a real pleasure to see so many fabulous bugs glowing in the December darkness. We are eagerly awaiting photos from our talented parade photographer, Gordon Miller, but in the meantime, here’s a shot of our artists’ lanterns from this year’s workshop. More to follow!

Artists’ Lantern Workshop 2015

With close to 30 artists at last weekend’s workshop, from all over the state of Vermont and as far away as Boston and Colorado, we had a lot of fun with the theme of BUGS! Over the course of two very intensive days, we made over 12 large-scale lanterns including a Praying Mantis, a Rhinoceros Beetle, dragonflies, butterflies and Venus Flytrap.  Here are a few images from the weekend…

Thanks for an amazing night!

Just a quick thank you to all of you who made the trek out to Waterbury tonight and braved the roads in some pretty treacherous weather conditions. Just before parade time, the moon came out and the snow stopped falling. We had an incredible evening filled with fire, music, light and joy.
Thanks to all the artists for working so hard on their lanterns – while we wait for our photos to come in, here’s a little taster photographed by Gordon Miller.

Artists’ Lantern-Making Workshop 2014

A couple of weeks ago, we had a fantastic artists’ lantern-making workshop. With close to 3o artists, art teachers and other creatives from all over Central Vermont and beyond, we worked for two days straight in the TBPS gym to make some incredible structures to reflect the theme of ‘Our Town’. By Sunday evening, we had a variety of lantern forms including a covered bridge, two lighthouses, a giant shuttlecock, maple trees, the Seminary Arts building, Union Elementary and the Chrysler Building.  Here are a few images from the weekend….
